111 years of London Group history in 75 minutes

Never mind the Marathon in London today, yesterday there was one in Newport, Isle of Wight!

Never mind the Marathon in London today, yesterday there was one in Newport, Isle of Wight as London Group member Tim Craven ran an assembled crowd through one hundred and eleven years of London Group history in a record time of 75 minutes.

As Tim breasted the tape the crowd broke into applause and, after a sip of water, declared that he would be prepared to run through it all again, but at a later date. Tim’s fast-paced illustrated talk on the history of the Group supported the absorbing and sensitively hung exhibition “111 Not Out” at Quay Arts, Newport, Isle of Wight on show until 27th April and well worth a visit. Ex-Tate Curator Chris Stevens once said, “The history of The London Group is the history of British Art” and numerous iconic images of British Art flashed up on the screen as Tim, one of the organisers of the exhibition, guided us through over a century of the visual arts.
