Steve Pettengell

We don’t often get to see the subtle politics at play behind closed doors, but such domestic politics have arguably the most profound impact upon us all.

My practice questions well-established social constructs and policies at play in our everyday lives, with a particular interest in façades, those foisted upon us or self-imposed. Drawing on an anthropological framework of investigation, I explore the duality of the domestic and the political, often re-appropriating domestic paraphernalia and cultural vernacular. I work in a wide range of media including: Sculpture (olfactory, sound, social, reappropriated ready-mades), photography and mixed media.
