The BlackBox and the University for the Creative Arts (Farnham) is proud to present 10 artworks by artist Chris Horner. Chris’ experience of supporting his father in the building trade initiated the working process for each artwork that is to be displayed in this exhibition. Chris has visually demonstrated the importance and value of building bags as an object. The contents inside each building bag whether it is cement, building sand or ballast is what is most important to all bricklayers, and usually the packaging is discarded and thrown away in the skip once it has been used. Chris wanted to challenge this kind of wasteful behaviour as an artist by testing the possibilities of something that is so typically thrown away without thinking, by putting each bag through a number of experimental processes to see how interesting, intriguing and exciting building bags can become.
