Graham Mileson
Graham Mileson

I am intrigued by the constant light shift in atmosphere, on the open environment and on its particularities. I do not work directly from this, but am well placed, on the North Downs, Kent, to absorb the abstract qualities of nature, conducive to my current paintings.

Since 1991 I have discovered more uses for interference colour, delicately sensitive to natural light flux and positional change. Atinception my paintings are stain and gel, built and reapplied, a dance with natural light and colour, process equivalents. The crucial point of identifying the evolved qualitative sense of a painting arrives when an eidetic unity becomes intuitively compelling. In practice imposing a particular sense of identity, which transmogrifies from temporal in flux and nugatory to an evocation of timelessness. This is how, despite contradiction, I think of my paintings as being resolved. Unity through diversity, consistent over time.
