James Faure Walker
Some of the drawing in ‘Pigeons, Kyoto’ comes from the same source as ‘Drawn Trees’, but much of it comes from a 10’ x 12’ drawing on cardboard I made after attending (somewhat reluctantly) a flower-arranging demonstration. I felt challenged by the suggestion that botany and engineering could be combined. The central section was lifted from a picture made after attending the ISEA (Electronic Arts) conference in Nagoya, Japan in 2002. Pigeons are one of life’s great universals, wonderfully indifferent to their surroundings – here a temple. I enjoy playing around with the new freedom offered by digital painting - merging painting, drawing, and photography. Pictures can be assembled from active components, and that makes for an interesting space to orchestrate. |
