David Carr paints on location, in all seasons and all weathers. The paintings are the product of direct observation and celebrate the abiding common human experience of vision. They are not ‘picture-making’. They concern the act of painting – how we use the imagination to translate our visual experience of the world we inhabit in terms of paint on a flat surface – a painterly concern over centuries. They are about the joy of the visual experience. Larger scale studio work is based on drawings, paintings and memory.
