Stanislas Blatton
Stanislas Slavomir Blatton

My work, which uses oil, watercolour, photography, and print mediums in particular, is figurative and seeks a fusion of the new and the traditional: I often use classicaI themes for metaphysical or allegorical purposes, employing heightened colour and emotional emphasis to dissolve the objective form and thereby mitigate the danger of becoming purely illustrative.

I also paint landscapes - sometimes reworking famous old master paintings – and I have embarked on a series of six hundred watercolour female nudes, addressing the perennial challenge of depicting natural forms with a fresh eye.

Most recently, I have begun a series of large, ironic ‘political landscapes’, exploring the legacy of Hitler and Stalin, in which I combine the written word with landscape on the same canvas to create what I hope is a provocative contradiction between form and content
