Evelyn Ballantine
Evelyn Ballantine A.R.C.A.

I live and work in Brighton. For the last two years I have found the excitement of working with ink, watercolour and gouache a renewal after using oil paint and charcoal. I work from my window overlooking the sea making paintings and drawings. In conjunction with this I am working on subjects that are not directly from nature but it all somehow becomes real together. The sunset I see creeps into a painting from a photograph of my young mother, or the sea and sky becomes one with my painting from Abraham Bosse’s ‘Summer’ engraving. I find that it has become a very stimulating way to work and is also taking me back again to oil paints.
